  1. **1987 Honda CRX Si — The D15 Beater Revival (B18 Swap Coming This Fall)**

    This CRX almost didn't make it out of a barn find. It's a first-gen (AF chassis) 1987 CRX Si with fuel injection, and when I got it, it had no title, just a bill of sale and the prior owner's death certificate. Alabama let me register it title-exempt due to its age, so it's now legally mine and on the road. The car came to me not running and destroyed interior, no clear plan, just a project with a hard deadline: Cruisin' the Coast was less than 90 days out, and I wanted this thing rolling for it, even if it wasn't show-quality yet. First hurdle: a sunroof leak that had been quietly destroying the car. The sunroof pan was rusted and still leaking through the rust itself, and worse, it had been dripping straight onto the ECU mounted under the passenger seat, rusted the case clean through. Then came the timing belt saga. On the first attempt, I had the cam 180° out, the distributor was firing cylinder 4 instead of cylinder 1. I caught it, corrected the timing, and the car ran smoother, but now cylinder 1 was dead. I ruled out injectors and ignition one by one, and a compression test confirmed it: 0 psi on cylinder 1 versus 190 psi on the other three. The original bad-timing startup had done real damage, bent valves, likely piston contact. Rather than rebuild the D15A3 head, I made the call to go bigger: a B18 swap is now planned for this fall, sourced from an Integra since B18s have been easier to actually find than B16s lately. I've already got the B18A1 block in hand, bare, no known history, and I'm building out a plan for coil-on-plug ignition, a Hondata S300 for tuning, and a full vacuum delete. But that's a November story. Right now, the car is running on the original D15 — belt replaced, alternator swapped after the old one seized and burned up a belt, brakes flushed and bled. The interior's going back together, and once the last few cosmetic pieces come together, this "beater revival" chapter is basically done, just in time to drive it into Cruisin' the Coast under its own power.
